Pahalgam Attack Reignited tension between India and Pakistan

A deadly Pahalgam attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir has reignited the tension between India and Pakistan. At least 28 people were killed and over 20 others injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists in Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the disputed region. The victims included 24 Indian nationals, two locals, and two foreign tourists from Nepal and the United Arab Emirates.
The attack has reignited tensions between India and Pakistan and has raised concerns about the security situation in the region. It also highlights ongoing unrest in Kashmir, exacerbated by demographic shifts and longstanding disputes.

The assailants reportedly posed as security personnel before launching the attack.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and emphasized the nation’s commitment to combating terrorism. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh labeled the incident an “act of cowardice.” Opposition leaders also condemned the attack, with Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi calling it a “crime against humanity.”
In response to the attack, Indian security forces launched a search operation, detaining about 100 suspects. A temporary lockdown was imposed in parts of Pahalgam, and helicopters were deployed to locate the attackers.
Indian authorities have blamed Pakistan for the deadliest-ever attack on tourists in the region.
Pakistan has denied involvement in the attack. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif stated, “Pakistan has no connection with this. This is all home-grown; there are revolutions in different so-called states against India, not one, not two, but dozens, from Nagaland to Kashmir, in the south, in Chhattisgarh, in Manipur. In all these places, there are revolutions against the Indian government.”

The international community has expressed concern over the attack. U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the incident, stating, “This is a disturbing attack. The United States stands with India in the fight against terrorism.” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also condemned the attack, expressing her condolences to the victims and their families.
As investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement.
